This time I learn all about the bureaucracy of large software corporations, and how it can stifle the creativeness and initiatives of employees.

As usual you got the lesson right :)
however it would have been more fun if you had learnt it by trying to get it done once....
Basically there's a hidden lesson if you had tried to do it i.e. you would have convinced everyone that its worth it to do this, then you would have made a change, and then in the testing phase some tester would have proposed to make the title "Welcome" as it made more sense to the tester and then everyone in Ux, PD, development and server team would have agreed that it makes sense and you as a poor developer would have reverted this change wondering why you ever attempted to think good about the product :)....

glad you remembered the technical writers :-)
This is so true it hurts.
Crappy enterprise bureaucracy at it's best.
I hear the word "innovation" so many times a day.
words have never been so cheap.
